A RECORD of MY UNCONVENTIONAL WORK ACHIEVEMENTS

1/ Being not an engineer in plastics or printing industry, I could achieve the 1st sale of an Italian M.O.S.S. printing-on-plastic-item machine only after 3 months joining COSA LIEBERMANN (VN) LTD.(CL) as a sales consultant and then the 2nd sale of a Swiss MIKRON pen tips making machine_these two machines worth over USD500,000_to a Vietnamese private-owned company. The M.O.S.S. machine was sold to a buyer who received my sales introduction airmail letter. He came to COSA office to inquire about a Swiss MIKRON pen tips making machinery line, which we didn’t sell then. But I didn’t let him leave COSA without any accomplishment. I introduced to him the M.O.S.S machine, at which he asked me, “For what purpose should I buy this?”. The result was that he agreed to sign the sales contract to buy it WITHOUT any bargain!

I had to go through many obstacles to achieve such a demanding goal: from my male colleagues’ non-cooperative attitude (due to their prejudice that I was a non-engineer female) to the client’s critical selection in a fierce competition situation. Whereas, all my company colleagues (all male!) could not sell any machinery line during their working duration at the company although they had joined COSA at least 1 year before me. Only one man who was in charge of power-looms could sell 1 worth USD30,000.-- to a State-owned Vietnamese company after over 1 year working on the offer and with his promise of a commission to the contract signer.

2/ When working for Diethelm Engineering Co. Ltd. ( DCL) and in the very beginning of setting up Cummins-Onan section, I did contribute the greatest part in securing the Sole Distributorship for Cummins-Onan (C-O) power generator sets (gensets) by recruiting and training good sales staff who together with me boosted the genset sales. Then, I took the initiative of contacting buyers of C-O gensets from other sources than DCL to get information, introduce DCL after-sales-services, take photos of those gensets to add to the reference list of C-O gensets sold in Vietnam. It was not an easy task to secure permission from those Taiwanese cos. for taking photos of those C-O gensets at their factories. But with my perseverance and reasonable persuasion, at last, they were convinced that it was of mutual benefit to let me perform my task. Furthermore, I could also secure their permission for bringing my tentative customers to visit their factories at the sites of gensets installed for close observation, paving the way for a more effective sale later.

3/ When working for DCL, I have duly achieved two “missions impossible” to rescue the company from bankruptcy - one relevant to HUE BREWERY Joint Venture and the other to KWANG NAM SHOES CORP. ( S. Korean 100% foreign investment co.). The 1st one related to a fatal contract signing on the sale of a power generator set (genset) to HUE BREWERY JV due to a sales engineer’s carelessness and ignorance, which led to not only a big loss of money but also a terrible damage to the company’s image. The 2nd related to the deliberately wrong taxation imposed on the genset model 310 DFCC imported by KWANG NAM via Vietnam Labour Overseas Deployment Corp.: this genset model has been in regular demand in Vietnam, thus leading to its frequent import-10% import tax (wrongly imposed) instead of 0% as correctly fixed will lead fledgling DCL to its downfall. In both cases, my knowing how and where to get crucial relevant information, precise definition of the key issues and right-time decision on which steps to take to get the desired results have helped me eventually accomplish the impossible tasks.

4/ When working for the East Asiatic Company in Trading (EAC Trading), instead of spending from USD500.-- to USD1,000.-- and at least one month more on top of 2 weeks already lost to secure the publishing license for Dumex Healthy Baby issues (already translated  into Vietnamese used as an advertising tool for Dumex powder milk which EAC was marketing and selling then) as we were told to fly to Ha Noi to get that license by the HCMC branch office of the Ministry of Culture and Information (MoCI), I did not lose even one single cent to get it within two days since I made effective of relevant necessary facts to secure the agreement of the Head of HCMC Culture and Information Department and the Head of Publishing Section (Mr. Ca Le Thuan and Mr. Huynh Tra Ngo - in 1992) to help me get that license from their superiors.

5/ When working for EAC Trading and in charge of marketing and selling Norwegian Jordan toothbrushes, I set up a sales team (initiated and recruited by myself ) of 6 dental students who established the distribution network covering HCMC dentists’ and health units upon my own initiative of winning the co-operation of the School of Dentistry and Public Health sector beside the wholesale markets. Altogether, we have greatly accomplished our heavy task of penetrating into the Vietnam domestic toothbrushes market with our high-priced Jordan toothbrushes then imported into Vietnam via SAIGON CO-OP. Our achievement was awarded a complimentary note accompanied by a symbolic statue from Jordan Co., the toothbrush manufacturer in Norway.

6/ When working for EAC Trading, in helping my senior colleague seize the golden chance of participating in a Seminar on Diabetes held in Jakarta in 1992 by the Danish Pharmaceuticals Company NOVO NORDISK, I myself organized her trip to Jakarta accompanied by a professor from HCMC School of Medicine WITHOUT any entry visas (NOVO NORDISK Jakarta branch could not secure their visas and due to lack of time, the visas could not be obtained in Vietnam, either). She was welcomed at the Seminar as a heroine because then it was the very first time Vietnam (a communist country and still not ASEAN member),  being invited to attend the Seminar whose invitees were only ASEAN countries besides representatives from Southeast Asian developed  countries and  America, European countries, could manage to fly to Jakarta WITH NO ENTRY VISA to attend the Seminar.

7/ When working for EAC Trading, I did contribute to the success of Dumex powder milk’s penetrating into Vietnam market in the marketing planning and marketing campaign launching by my accurate assessment of the market situation and definition of the most important priorities to be undertaken then. Therefore, despite fierce competition and Dumex powder milk’s late entrance as a completely brand new to the Vietnamese people, it has gained a firm foothold in the Vietnam market.

8/ Being fond of reading which I consider one of my favorite hobbies, I have gradually been acquiring the technical skills in writing in English by patiently and studiously learning from my seniors and from reading all kinds of literature in dailies, weeklies, monthlies, books and novels of various styles. Now that I have already converted them into the practical application of writing news articles for the SAIGON NEWSREADER daily to which I worked as a part-time journalist besides being its Media Promotion Manager. Apart from that, I have also been translating English books into Vietnamese and contributing my writings to some Vietnamese publications, such as Tuoi Tre newspaper, Vietnam Dau Tu Nuoc Ngoai ( the Vietnamese sister of Vietnam Investment Review ), Tia Sang, Phu Nu...Please find in the attachments the list of my English-Vietnamese translations_both already published and still worked on.

9/ When working for SAIGON NEWSREADER, I set up THE A&T VOLUNTEERS TEAM in October 1996 to help disadvantaged Vietnamese children go to school with the funding from my friends and business partners motivated by myself. Each month then we got about USD1,000 to grant scholarships to those children as well as to help disadvantaged teachers who were in charge of taking care of the scholarship-granted children. As a volunteer, I have spent my own time, energy and money to help those unlucky Vietnamese children, contributing considerably and meaningfully to Vietnam’s development.

10/ During the 10-year operation of my own private small business An-Thanh Pte. set up in May 2000 with just USD20.—and ended in February 2011, I alone created and developed the Art of Latin-based Character Calligraphy, earning fame and wealth and the satisfaction of contributing my part to the growth of Vietnam. You can see details of my achievements in the herewith attachments.

11/ In September 2010, I was nominated by the U.S. Embassy in
Vietnam and approved by the U.S. State Department
  to take
part in APEC Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit in Gifu, Japan on
October 1, 2010. At the Summit, accepted Chairwoman of Tan Tao
Group’s invitation to visit Tan Tao University (TTU) and later move to Tan Duc eCity, Duc Hoa district, Long An province to help develop TTU and Tan  Tao   Group (TTG) for a while.

12/ Even before officially moving to Duc Hoa district, Long An province to help Tan Tao University and Tan Tao Group in February 2011, I did casually achieve a Public Relations success by attracting a team of distinguished American Doctors of Medicine headed by Ph.D. Professor + Doctor of Medicine BÙI Duy Tâm ( my own contact ) to visit Tan Tao University in December 2010.

And later, instead of establishing Tan Tao University’s School of Medicine in phase 3 as planned, that is at least several years after 2010, the Chairwoman of Tan Tao Group (TTG) and Tan Tao University (TTU) with my assistance and endorsement decided to seize the golden chance of Ph.D. Professor BÙI Duy Tâm’s tremendous interest and help to set up Tan Tao University’s School of Medicine, starting in 2011 with the least of expenses: Professor BÙI Duy Tâm and his associates did write and compile the whole program of advanced medicine worth at least USD1million.—WITHOUT receiving a single cent from Mrs. Yen, Chairman of TTG and TTU. That program was one of the conditions for TTU to get the license for setting up TTU’s School of Medicine.

Later on, with Prof. BÙI Duy Tâm’s uncompensated and unmeasurable devotion, TTU’s School of Medicine has been opened and operated successfully so far_the only School at TTU that could attract students now at Tân Tạo University.

Pieces of evidence for what I just wrote are attached herewith for your information and reference.
